But why is Africa Day celebrated?

The story begins with the winds of change that swept across Africa, like a mighty tempest, in the 20th century. It was a time when the people of this great continent rose up against the chains of colonialism, demanding their rightful place in the annals of history.

On the 25th of May, 1963, a remarkable event took place in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa. It was here that the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was born, an unprecedented alliance of newly independent nations committed to forging a path of unity, solidarity, and self-determination for Africa and her people.

Africa Day is a testament to the visionaries who stood shoulder to shoulder, determined to build a future where Africa’s voice would be heard, her resources harnessed, and her people empowered. It is a celebration of the countless heroes and heroines who fought valiantly for freedom, justice, and equality.
